A single lane roundabout was designed to improve this existing, high-volume intersection. Cost, construction traffic, and right-of-way issues were some of the largest design constraints. The design was completed that circumscribed the center circular island within the existing intersection pavement limits. A phased traffic control plan was developed and construction alternate was added during bidding that required the contractor to leave the intersection open to traffic during construction.
